Today I am grateful for safe return from holiday and for a brief breather before the usual craziness of usual year begins.

Today I am grateful to my husband for adding improvements to the kitchen and displaying lots of gift wooden trinkets that had previously had no home.

Today I am grateful for two things: how nice my holiday was and how nice it is to be back home. Purr…

22 May 2012: a classic coffee set

Today I am grateful to my Mom for giving us her classic porcelain coffee set. I remember it back for as long as  I can remember myself: it’s always sat in our glass display cabinet at home. Despite my protests, my Mom gave it to us. It’s got tiny cups, tiny saucers for them, a slim and tall coffee pot, on the lid of which there is a little nod, to grab the top of the pot as you pour coffee, so that the lid does not come off. There is a short and plump sugar bowl and a matching creamer. Drinking coffee with it feels so civilised.

Coffee anyone?

Coffee anyone? (Photo credit: Natashalatrasha)

And on every item there is some mysterious design that has bothered me since childhood. I still cannot figure out what it is. I have decided when I was a girl that it was a broken old African tree – and I have not been able to come up with a better solution since.

31 December 2011: New Year

Today I am grateful to my Mom and my late Dad, and my brother, and all my relatives, and all my friends for the gift of so many magical and New Year celebrations, which made me happier, stronger, more creative, more grounded, more tuned into the world.

6 September 2011: getting in gradually

Today I am grateful that all the business can be re-started gradually, that I do not have to do everything at once. One bit at a time – which is nice, and doable, considering my jet-lag.

Today I am grateful for the fact that I am going home for holiday until 4 September. There every day I will be grateful for being with my family and friends, for good food, for walks in the city streets, in the parks and in the forest.
