Today I am grateful to the late Harry Harrison, and I am deeply saddened by the news. As a teenager, I got a lot from sci-fi in general, and his in particular: Jason dinAlt and the Stainless Steel Rat, especially the interactive book You Can Be The Stainless Steel Rat: An Interactive Game Book, and of course, the Eden trilogy with its concept of matriarchy – it was all marvellous, urged to learn about the world I live in, to ask questions, not to swallow whatever “truth” about society that the authorities want you to believe. Great author, and he will be missed.
